00002The Alarming cases of students unaware about internet safety

The significance of internet security in schools is the case of a school in Pennsylvania, United States. A student hacked into the school's computer system and accumulated access to the private information of over 14,000 learners and staff members. The pupil was able to access names, birth dates, and social security numbers, as well as personal health and disciplinary data. This incident accentuated the necessity for schools to prioritize internet safety and data privacy. The school community reacted by enforcing new protection standards, including upgrading their firewall, implementing substantial passwords, and equipping staff with training on the internet safety and data privacy. research proposal writing sheffield

In another case from new jersey, a student who was just sixteen years old hacked the system and increased his grades to get admission to an Ivy League college.

00004The internet safety

In simple terms, we can say that internet safety means keeping young learners safe from issues occurring online, hacking, cyberbullying, cybercrime, prone to illicit content, etc.

The parents and the school both need to see and control the internet-related attack or any online threats students get.

Reports claim that more than seventy percent of students of age range eight to seventeen encounter such content which is not appropriate for them.

More than twenty-three percent asserted that they do not know about internet safety and how to make their social media profile private.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act or the COPPA is made for the privacy and protection of students online and regulated online safety. The Act was commenced in 2000 although with changing time it was updated in 2013. The act emphasizes that parents should control and review everything their child does online ( parents approval needed before any action )

Certain laws regarding the protection is that websites cannot collect data from young and certain sites cannot be accessed by the young pupils.

Cases of cyber bullying increasing rapidly from eighteen percent to thirty-four percent. More than eighty-five percent of students encounter some sort of cyber issue. Schools should furnish periodic education and apprenticeship to learners and teams on secure internet methods, such as creating strong passwords, avoiding suspicious emails, and reporting any unusual activity.

In December 2000 an act was enacted that is popularly known as Children's Internet Protection Act(CIPA) this act stressed that schools and libraries should follow Internet safety protocol to reduce access discounts. Schools can utilize filtering and monitoring devices to deter access to inappropriate content and monitor internet use to catch sight of prospective cyber dangers. These devices should be regularly updated and experimented with to ensure their cogency.

Apart from software related safety, school should also enforce physical security standards, such as locking cabinets and securing computer labs, to preclude unauthorized access to appliances and data.

The Internet is a new revolution that can be great for the development of students although it comes with issues too. Learning and teaching students about internet safety can prevent the future generation from any cyber crimes.
