A programme to impart basic financial literacy to non literate men and women in villages has been started by creating teams of Khudai Madadgar composed of school children. School teachers in each area will be responsible for conducting the programme to achieve milestones, beginning with all participants learning to sign their names. For every stage certificates will be provided by the school teacher. Participants will pay for this service in order that children and teacher are compensated for their work.
As the holistic villages communities are gradually becoming self sufficient through earnings of barefoot products being sold within the area, they need to keep their own accounts. Ms. Afroza Bhamani and The Hampton School are providing a structure for basic course with milestones in order that all villagers become conversant with using their signatures and basic mathematics.
This programme is being undertaken under Yasmeen Lari’s BASA (Barefoot Social Architecture) to make communities self reliant. Beginning with holistic model villages targeting about 6,000 women and men initially, it is intended to spread the programme to Zero Donor model villages which consists of hundreds of thousands of villagers.
